Happy Monday, folks! Hope you have the holiday off. I’m REALLY excited about today’s post number one because these photos were taken just yesterday (talk about hot off the press) and number two because this will be my first featured local space.
Meet Brent & Colleen: a soon-to-be-married couple and inhabitants of a beautifully decorated modern loft in Quincy, MA. Aren’t they just the cutest? (This photo by Eye Sugar Photography.) These two were kind enough to let Mike and I temporarily occupy & trample through their totally sweet abode in order to make this post possible. Thanks, guys! All interior shots taken by Mike Shanahan and edited by me.
First and foremost, let it be known that both Brent and Colleen are super stylish and super crafty. E.g. those orange Eames Fiberglass Shell Chairs behind the sofa at the picture below were purchased as black bar stools. They were stripped down of their paint to the original orange fiberglass and then given new legs to be used as dining chairs. And the gray throw pillows? Colleen sewed the covers herself with IKEA fabric.
Product info: Walton Sectional Sofa by West Elm, throw by Storehouse via TJ Maxx, orange throw pillow via Etsy, Wood Frame coffee table by Crate and Barrel, Square Lacquer Tray from West Elm, area rug via One Kings Lane, bookshelf by IKEA, the orange Eames fiberglass chairs are vintage, the white Eames chairs are Herman Miller via Hive Modern, and the drafting table was Brent’s grandfathers.
So, their bookshelf just looks like this on a regular basis. It’s a work of art in itself if you ask me and is composed of many architecture books, fun trinkets with special meaning, and pictures taken during their travels.
Product info: the desk is a kitchen table from IKEA, bookshelf and work lamp also from IKEA, the office chair is vintage, and the two left pieces of artwork are Brent originals. Check out his Flickr page for more great pictures. Find similar file cabinets here at CB2.
Talk about a sleek kitchen area. I think my favorites are the pendant light fixtures above the island. See a similar lighting style by Home Decorators Collections here. Much of the loft is decorated with Chicago and Boston themed items which are reminiscent of home; Chicago for Brent and Boston for Colleen. Find similar prints on Etsy like these from Flying Junction.
A beautiful reflection atop the shiny granite countertop. Wine, anyone?
A crisp and clean place to rest. Product info: twin dressers from CB2, twin night stands are West Elm, headboard from West Elm, duvet cover and blue and white throw pillows are from Inhabit, white splatter throw pillow from West Elm, bench made by Brent, twin work lamps from IKEA, and above-the-bed art made by Brent.
It’s an undeniably beautiful space. When I asked for the story behind the decorating, Colleen nicely summed it up to, “We like to hold out for good deals or things we love.” And LOVE is certainly how I feel about the space. How about you?
